Row Boat Detail: Shape

The topic for this project was the five photos sensory forms in visual communications. What I was trying to achieve was to take as many pictures of color, lines, shape, relative size, and lastly division of space. I think these qualities were clearly evident in the photos. I didn’t encounter any problems while taking the pictures; they were quite simple to take. The pictures I photographed are connected to the readings because they’re relevant to the environment around us. If I had more time, I think I would take as many pictures as I could and try to go off campus and take pictures of different subjects. These photos and the photo hunt has given me an experience and I have had an adventure observing what is around me; I feel more aware of my surroundings and how I look more into what is going on around me when I take photographs. I didn’t have any Aha moments examining the lines, shapes, colors, relative size and space when taking these pictures. I enjoyed seeing how these qualities interact with each other.  The first photo is a picture of a leaf on the ground. When I look at the ground I can see various patterns and shapes that the wind has created out of the leaves and dirt. The varying sizes of the leaves are also different colors which help to depict shape. But what is most noticeable is the relative size of the leaf. Standing above it, it seems to be the size of a thumb nail, but one you get closer you realize that it’s actually the size of a fist. The second photo is of the cars in a parking lot. I am impressed with how the cars are aligned forming lines and creating space between each of the rows. If you look closely to the picture, you can see that there are different size cars in each row of the parking lot and how there is space between them. I thought this picture was a cool representation because it shows that it has a lot going on. The sidewalk depicts line design. There is an upward curve that draws the eye to the horizontal groove in the pavement which divides each section. The brilliant hues of the sunset are mesmerising, as the warmth of color in the sky appeals to my senses. The color is soothing, which makes me feel happy and warm inside. The row boat lends itself to the design of shape. Honing in one the first section in the back of the boat I realize that it is a rectangle. The framework of the structure helps me to frame and focus my eyes on where to step into the boat. There are just so many ways you can look at objects. Each of these photos lend themselves to a different perspective. I think this photo hunt was a good idea because it gave students a chance to go on an adventure and take pictures of different objects we see and it gave me pause to actually appreciate nature.
